If you are a wheat farmer struggling with grassy weeds, choosing the right herbicide is crucial for a good harvest. Below is a detailed guide on Maachis 15 WP, answering all your key questions.

1. What is Maachis?

Maachis is a specialized post-emergence herbicide. Its technical name is Clodinafop-Propargyl 15% WP (wettable powder). It is manufactured by Biostadt India Ltd. and is specifically formulated to fight tough grass weeds that compete with your wheat crop for nutrients and sunlight.

2. Why to Use It?

  • High Efficiency: It is extremely effective against the most stubborn enemy of wheat: Phalaris minor.
  • Crop Safety: It is tough on weeds but safe for the Wheat crop.
  • Soil Safety: It degrades quickly in the soil. This means it has no re-cropping restrictions, so it won't harm the next crop you plant after wheat.
  • Rain Fastness: It is quickly absorbed by the leaves.

3. Where to Use?

Maachis is strictly recommended for use in Wheat fields (Gehu). Do not use this herbicide on other crops without expert consultation, as it is chemically designed to protect wheat specifically.

4. On What Grass Does It Work?

Maachis targets narrow-leaf grassy weeds. It is most famous for controlling:

  • Phalaris minor (Technical Name)

Common Local Names:

  • Gulli Danda (गुल्ली डंडा)
  • Gehu ka Mama (गेहूँ का मामा)
  • Mandusi (मंडूसी)
  • Ban Gehu (बन गेहूँ)

Note: It works on grassy weeds only. It will NOT kill broad-leaf weeds like Bathua or Gajri.

5. What Does It Do?

Once sprayed, Maachis is absorbed through the leaves of the weed. It works by stopping the weed's growth mechanism:

  • Within 48 hours: The active growth of the weed stops.
  • 1 to 3 weeks: You will see the weeds turning yellow (chlorosis).
  • Final Stage: The weeds dry up and die (necrosis), ensuring your wheat gets all the nutrition.

6. How to Use (Dosage & Application)

Timing: Apply 30–35 days after sowing wheat (when the weed is at the 3–4 leaf stage).

Dosage:

  • Amount: 400 grams per hectare (approx 160g per acre).
  • Water: Mix in 375–400 liters of water per hectare.

Method:

  • Use a Knapsack sprayer fitted with a Flat Fan Nozzle for best coverage.
  • Mixing: Dissolve the water-soluble bag in clean water as per the instructions on the packet.

Safety Precautions

  • Wear protective clothing (mask and gloves).
  • Spray in the direction of the wind.
  • Wash hands and body thoroughly after use.
  • Wait 110 days after spraying before harvesting the crop.
